Canvas, advanced

Region select, object separation, background removal, and 3D layers.

The advanced image-editing, video, and 3D tools in Plotr Canvas. Select an image layer and the editing tools appear in the toolbar above. Each tool is either free (local edit) or paid (AI) — check the badge next to the button.

  1. Editing tools open when a layer is selected

Select a single image layer on the canvas and the advanced editing tools appear in the toolbar above. The M·L·B region-select shortcuts also act on the selected layer.

Worth noting: Region select (marquee / lasso / brush) and most editing tools require a single image layer to be selected. With nothing selected, you get the generate bar instead of the toolbar.

  2. Region select + inpainting

Turn on ‘Select/crop’ and mark an area with marquee (M · rectangle), lasso (L · freehand outline), or brush (B · paint over). ‘Copy’ or ‘Cut’ lifts just that part onto a new layer (free), or type an instruction in the toolbar field and press AI to repaint only that area naturally (inpainting — the rest of the pixels stay).

  3. Separate · background · adjust tools

‘Separate’ lifts an object you press-and-hold onto a new layer (1 pong); ‘Remove BG’ keeps only the subject and makes the background transparent (1 pong); ‘BG only’ erases the subject and keeps the background (3 pong). ‘Close-up’ enlarges an area with AI, ‘Liquify’ pushes pixels by dragging (free), ‘Match BG’ adjusts to the perspective and light of the background below, and ‘Apply sketch’ blends a doodle into the art style.

  4. Video layers

Turn an image layer into an AI video layer with ‘Turn into video (animate)’ (in the background). On a video layer, ‘Split at this frame’ cuts it into front/back, Shift-click several videos and ‘Stitch videos’ merges them into one, and ‘Extract this frame → image layer’ pulls a moment out as an image.

Worth noting: Stitching videos takes as long as the total duration (playback length equals processing time). Splitting and frame extraction are free.

  5. 3D layers

Upload a .glb/.gltf/.fbx (⬆) or drag a ‘3D background’ from the library onto the canvas to get a 3D layer. Select it to manipulate in place — move/rotate/resize parts and a perspective slider — and it bakes into that state when you deselect. ‘Save to library as 3D background’ to reuse it, and once you've set a 3D composition, Change Style / generate draws in that composition.
